SKELEC is the sole provider of electricity on St. Kitts. The power station located at Needsmust comprises eleven (11) diesel generators operating in droop and with a total installed capacity of 44.1 MW. This services a peak demand of approximately 24 MW and a base load of approximately 15 MW. The sole function of the Power Station is the production of electricity to supply the twelve (12), 3-phase, 3-wire, 11,000 volt radial feeders originating at the generator bus bar. The system frequency is 60 Hz.

The Needsmust Power Station staff is divided into two (2) main sections: Maintenance and Operations. Maintenance is responsible for the servicing and repairs of all generators and auxiliary equipment. Operations is responsible the monitoring and control of generators and associated equipment.
